Alan & Nancy Stegall
Stegall's Stoneware produces a line of functional stoneware pottery designed by Alan and Nancy Stegall. The clean, simple forms they produce in their pottery are accented with non-toxic glazes and stains in colors and designs reflecting the landscape in which they live -- The Blue Ridge Mountains in Tennessee. Whether thrown on a wheel, extruded, handbuilt or pressed into forms, the Stegalls continue to be fascinated with clay because its flexibility lends itself to the many shapes they create and the many more they can imagine.
While stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Hawaii, the Stegalls spent a few weeks in the base hobby shop when they decided they would rather design and make their own pieces. While pursuing careers in computer science and nursing, working with clay continued to be a part of their daily lives. With Alan's retirement from the Air Force, they could think of no more rewarding way to spend their time together than producing their functional pottery at their home in the Tennessee Mountains and they continue to do so today.
